With unique landscapes, diverse wildlife, and historical landmarks, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. In this article, I’ll share my top 11 day trip destinations near Orlando that are fun and interesting.

1) Apopka Wildlife Drive

If you’re looking for the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of Orlando, then the Apopka Wildlife Drive is an excellent choice. The drive is only an hour north of Orlando and is an excellent way to see Florida’s wildlife up close. With over 174 different bird species and numerous alligators, it’s a nature lover’s paradise. There are several places along the way where you can stop and take pictures as well. Note that the wildlife drive is only open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. The drive takes 2-3 hours to complete, and there are no rest stops along the way, so make sure to pack some snacks and drinks.

2) Bok Tower

Located just south of Orlando in the city of Lake Wales, Bok Tower is a 250-acre sanctuary that’s a perfect escape from the city. The Tower was established in 1929 by Edward Bok and is a gift to the American people. The Tower, surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens, is a neo-Gothic and Art Deco style structure that stands 205 feet tall and has 60 bronze bells. The Tower plays music at regular intervals, giving visitors a memorable audio experience. Additionally, Bok Tower has multiple gardens and a beautiful visitor center along with miles of hiking trails.

3) Rock Springs Run and Kelly Park in Apopka

Rock Springs Run is a beautiful river located just under an hour north of Orlando in Apopka, Florida. The river is one of two designated wild and scenic rivers in the state and is part of the Wekiva River Basin’s complex ecological system. The area has 8 miles of crystal-clear spring water to enjoy and one of the best places to launch on the river is King’s Landing. The river offers two directions to venture out, and both offer a unique experience. If you go left, the river opens up, making it easier to navigate through a beautiful inky-black reflection pool. On this side of the river, you’re likely to spot some wildlife like birds, turtles, alligators, and a family of otters. The right side of the river will have you paddle into the middle of a beautiful jungle, and the crystal-clear water and beautiful surroundings will make your day trip unforgettable.
